What If Summer Wasn’t About Getting Ahead?
A gentle reminder to let this season be about connection, rest, and rediscovery.
Summer shows up with all kinds of pressure. We’re told to use the longer days to catch up, get ahead, be productive, lose the weight, plan for the fall, organize the garage, make everything better. Even our supposed “breaks” start to feel like tasks.
But what if summer wasn’t about optimizing?
What if it was about softening?
If you're feeling the pull to slow down, you're not lazy—you’re paying attention. Your body, your nervous system, your spirit might be asking for something quieter: space to think, rest, reconnect, and remember who you are outside of all the roles you juggle.
This season can be more than a race toward improvement. It can be a gentle return—to yourself, to joy, to presence.
Maybe you sit in the grass while your kids play instead of checking emails.
Maybe dinner is a simple bowl of fruit eaten barefoot on the porch.
Maybe the only thing you “achieve” is not feeling anxious for a few moments.
That’s still something. In fact, it might be everything.
A Summer Ritual: Mojito Fruit Salad
Here's something simple and summery to ground you in the moment—a fresh fruit salad that feels like a little celebration of the season. Make it with your kids, for yourself, or for a slow Sunday gathering.
You’ll need:
Watermelon, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries (cut and tossed together)
A handful of fresh mint, torn
Juice of 1–2 limes
1–2 tsp powdered sugar (or honey if you prefer)
To make:
Mix the fruit and torn mint in a bowl. In a small cup, whisk together the lime juice and powdered sugar. Pour over the fruit and gently toss. Let it sit for 10–15 minutes to let the flavors soak in. Serve chilled—and preferably outside.
Therapy is a space to soften, too.
If you're craving a slower, more connected way of living—therapy can help you get there. This work isn't just about managing symptoms. It’s about creating room for who you are and what you need to feel whole again.
You don’t have to push through summer. You’re allowed to sink into it.
